Important Information on May 2025 Special Election

Ohio has our primary election on May 6 with early voting starting on April 8. This year that includes a special election for State Issue 2. While many of us will not have much to vote on, it is still important to vote and make sure your voice is heard.

LaRose Voter Purge:

Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced another round of voter purges. Over 350,000 Ohioans are at risk of being kicked off the rolls if they don’t respond to a notice sent by LaRose’s office. The registrations will be cancelled in September 2025.

State Issue 2:

On May 6th, 2025, in Ohio’s primary election, voters will decide state issue two- a legislatively referred constitutional amendment that would authorize a $2.5 billion general obligation bond fund the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) through the Ohio Public Works Commission.

Bond issues are required to be approved by Ohio voters as constitutional amendments. Voters first approved a bond amendment in 1987 and the most recent was in 2014.

The funds have been used to pay for over 19,000 critical infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, water supply systems, and more. Yes/No Vote:

Voting yes supports allowing the state to issue up to $2.5 billion in bonds to assist local governments in funding public infrastructure improvements.

Voting no would oppose allowing the state to issue up to $2.5 billion in bonds to assist local governments in funding public infrastructure improvements. There is no organized opposition expected. ODP recommendation:

ODP’s Executive Committee unanimously endorsed a yes vote on state issue two.
