Raise a Glass to Red, Wine & Blue

In 2019, Cleveland mom & CEO of Shareblue, Katie Paris, decided her efforts of supporting progressive agendas should be brought closer to home.     She felt Ohio had slipped from a winnable state for Democrats and it was time she turned her considerable talent and expertise to resolve that issue.

Inspired by her mentor, former White House press secretary Mike McCurry and her work with organizations such as Nuns on the Bus, Paris knew that local, authentic voices matter most. Through research and experience, Paris knew that the road to Democratic victories traveled right through the suburbs.  And these voices, the voices of suburban women, became Red Wine & Blue.

The plan was to reach women through digital advertising, messaging and organizing. It was essential to engage voters and for them to reach out to their social networks.

In speaking with Red Wine & Blue’s Organizing Director (Mason’s own) Julie Smith Womack, the initial attraction of the group was that there were a LOT of women who cared about local issues, but because of their busy lives juggling work and a family, they may not be able to activate in traditional ways such as canvassing. But Red Wine & Blue recognized their connections to the suburban community were just as strong and they had credibility and strength in numbers.

Butler County Democratic Party is honored to host a conversation with Julie Smith Womack on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 7 pm.

We will hear Julie explain Red Wine & Blue, hear some success stories and their plans for the future.
